MARK Caswell will return to action at Cheltenham on Saturday – 25 years after he rode his final winner at the same meeting.

Caswell, who lives in Prestbury near the course, signed off his professional riding career with success aboard High Fire for Cleeve Hill trainer Owen O'Neill.

Now, a quarter of a century later, he will don his riding silks again at the iconic venue to ride in the Greatwood Charity race on Saturday.

"It will be the first race I've ridden in since I retired and, at 53, it will be a nice opportunity to ride around Cheltenham again," said Caswell.

"Win, lose or draw it's all about raising money for a great cause and having a bit of fun.

"It's a chance to generate some publicity for Greatwood because they don't get the coverage some of the bigger charities get.

"The Horse Power scheme they run, which involves children working with the horses, is fantastic.

"The interaction brings out so much in the children."

Caswell will take the reins aboard five-time winner Sky Calling trained by Martin Keighley, one of a number of trainers for whom he has been riding out in preparation for the race.

He has also gained an insight into the challenge he faces as a pest controller at Prestbury Park, as well as taking up Latin dancing to stay in shape.

"I've not done as much riding as this for 25 years," said Caswell.

"I've been riding out all over the place I'm as fit as I possibly can be, particularly as I'm working every day."
