Carluccio's is fine-tuning its plans as other chains prepare to open in the city.

Another Italian chain, Prezzo, has permission for a restaurant in the old Bluecoat House in Upper Borough Walls, while top chef Raymond Blanc's Brasserie Blanc is to open up in the Francis Hotel.

There will also be up to seven new restaurants in the Vaults development next to Bath Spa railway station, which is being built in the final phase of the £360 million SouthGate scheme.

Bath Chamber of Commerce executive director Ian Bell said: "The name of Carluccio's is a terrific addition to the wonderful range of places that people can eat and drink in the centre of Bath. They are a quality brand which will fit perfectly into the city.

"We are in a really fortunate position in Bath to have enjoyed the considerable investment that has been made in Milsom Place and SouthGate which provide exciting new shopping and dining destinations at both ends of the city.

"When they are combined with the extra ingredients from the independent sector we end up with a tasty recipe that will draw visitors and satisfy residents and so benefit the whole of the local economy."
