10.20am - Gloucester pub is still open
Earlier reports suggested that the popular Westgate Street venue had closed, but it is still operating as a cafe, and will soon reopen as a pub according to the landlords.
A company bought the premises Licence in February this year with the intention of turning the pub into flats.
However, they changed their minds in March but forgot to renew the pub licence.
Landlord Martin Penn has been in charge of the pub, along with his wife Kay, for 20 months.
The first they knew about the licence issues was when police visited the pub on Tuesday last week.
"We couldn't believe it," said Mr Penn. "We knew absolutely nothing about it, it's got nothing to do with us, it was just an error that the premises owners made.
"It wasn't intentional, it's just something that someone has overlooked.
"It was such a scare when the police came in.
"We have been told by the council that we can still operate as a cafe for the time being, but we can't serve alcohol or have live music at the moment."
A new licence has been applied for, as has a temporary event notice for September 25, 26, 27,and 28, which means the venue will be able to operate as a pub on these dates .
Mr Penn said that he doesn't expect it to be too long before the pub is running business as normal.
He said: "I'm hoping it will all be plain sailing now and we will be back up and running as normal from the second week in October."
A spokesman for Gloucester City Council said: "A new licence has been applied for.
"The Pig Inn the City can currently operate for anything that doesn't require a license."
The pub has also made this year's Good Beer Guide after being judged on it's atmosphere, cliental mix, and quality of beer.
