10.48am - Fuel clubs growing in popularity

Tuesday, October 07, 2008, 10:48

FUEL clubs are growing in popularity across the county as people try to beat the rising energy prices.

The system works by neighbours clubbing together to buy oil for heating their homes in bulk from a single supplier, allowing them to negotiate a discounted rate.

Residents are saving up to £30 on a tank of fuel for each house.

Clubs have sprung up in Withington, Northleach, Chedworth, Avening and Farmington, with up to 150 members in each group.

The idea originally began in America, but the spiralling costs of fuel globally has seen fuel clubs being set up worldwide.
