11.10am - Student wanted in connection with attempted armed robbery
Stephen Jackley, who is currently in custody in America, is wanted in connection with an attempted armed robbery at Ledbury's HSBC bank earlier this year.
West Mercia Police want to extradite the Worcester University student from the US, where he is being held after admitting firearms charges.
Jackley was this week named as an official suspect for the Ledbury incident, which took place at HSBC's High Street branch on March 4.
Armed police and dog handlers swept into the town when a man thought to be wearing a wig and a false goatee beard walked into the branch, passed a note to a female cashier and demanded cash.
The robber produced a handgun but fled empty-handed when his demand was refused. Staff triggered an alarm that immediately alerted the police.
Two members of staff were taken to hospital suffering with shock.
Jackley, 22, is also suspected of three armed robberies and two burglaries in the Worcester area dating back as far as October 2007.
Other police forces in Devon and the Netherlands are investigating Jackley in connection with investigations into similar offences.
Det Sgt Jim Fox said South Worcestershire CID was leading a joint investigation, and would be seeking Jackley's extradition.
When that extradition would begin depends on the prison sentence imposed in the US in October.
Jackley, who is originally from Sidmouth in Devon but lives on Worcester University's campus, has admitted attempting to buy a firearm from a gun store in Waterbury, Washington County, Vermont, using a fake identity on Monday, June 16.
He has been in custody since his arrest following a motoring incident.
When Jackley was arrested, detectives in the US contacted West Mercia Police asking them to search his room on campus.
The Wyvern halls of residence where Jackley lived and the Bredon office block had to be evacuated. Children in a creche also had to be moved, and some final exams were cancelled.
