UPDATE: House destroyed in new Stroud blaze

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 17:07

A home in Beard’s Lane in Stroud has been destroyed by fire.

The blaze started at around 3pm on Saturday, and destroyed the single storey property in less than an hour.

Gloucestershire police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Flames leapt more than 30 feet in the air at the height of the fire according to eyewitnesses.

One neighbour said:  "There were lots of flames, they were reaching 30 or 40 feet in the air at one point.

"The fire also filled the street with smoke."

No one was injured in the incident.

Four fire engines from Stroud, Painswick, Nailsworth and Gloucester attended the scene near the railway crossing, adjacent to Stroud High School and Marling.

Three jets and six sets of breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the blaze.

Despite its proximity to the fire in the same area on Friday, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue says the two incidents are not connected.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Gloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234.
