The determined postmaster is making the most of the last few weeks in which his branch at Forthampton, near Tewkesbury, will be open.
He has been busy collecting hundreds of items donated by visitors to his tiny post office, which is one of those to be closed under the Royal Mail's cost-cutting measures.
Mr Remmer said: "We had two big cardboard boxes full which we took over to the lady who's organising the campaign.
"People have responded very well indeed and I know there's more to come in."
Items dropped off by customers include sweets, sauce sachets, books and tinned fruit.
The campaign was started by Hardwicke Royal British Legion to fill shoeboxes full of goodies for our soldiers on duty in Afghanistan.
It is going from strength to strength, to the delight of lead organisers Bill and Carol Bratty.
The gifts from home will mean a lot to the soldiers of 1 Rifles, based at Beachley on the Gloucestershire border, who are going out to Afghanistan at the end of this month.
The aim is to fly out hundreds of boxes filled with goodies to 500 members of the regiment while they are serving in the country. The boxes will be flown out in batches of more than 150 from the end of October.
Tewkesbury Post Office, in High Street, is also backing the campaign.
Manager Donna McKella said: "We've just sent over 16 containers full of donated items but we're keeping it going until October 1.
"People have been very good, even those on low incomes. They've been bringing in carrier bags full of stuff – cup soups, razors, shower gel, playing cards."
In Cheltenham, drop-off points include the United Services Club in North Place, Somerfield in Bath Road and Tesco in Colletts Drive.
Other points include Sainsbury's in Barnwood and Brockworth, Tesco in Quedgeley and Newent News.
