Hillsborough disaster survivor: 'They lied to the 96 families'
THE truth of what really happened at the Hillsborough disaster 23 years ago has finally been revealed – proving that Liverpool fans were in no way to blame.
It has led to a Gloucester resident, who was there in the midst of the unfolding disaster on April 15, 1989, to call for inquests into those who perished to be reopened.
Liverpool fan Barry Leach, of Gloucester City Centre Community Partnership, was in the stands on that fateful day. He said: "I watched it all unfold in utter disbelief, I couldn't believe what was happening. For 23 years the families of the 96 have been lied to, and now the truth is out. I don't think it brings closure as such yet. I would like to see the inquests of all those who died re-opened and the police should be subject to a criminal prosecution."
The devastating human crush happened during the semi-final FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football clubs at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield.

It resulted in the deaths of 94 people on the day, eventually rising to 96 with the deaths of two more victims in hospital. A total of 766 other people being injured. All of them were fans of Liverpool Football Club.
Since that day, questions have been asked over how the police dealt with the incident, and their reports from the time which attributed all blame to the Liverpool fans.
Yesterday the Hillsborough Independent Panel published its report into the tragedy, which proves the police were to blame.
The report also found 116 of the 164 police statements identified had been altered. The panel found 41 people out of 96 "had the potential to be saved".
Yesterday, Prime Minister David Cameron offered a "profound" apology to the families.

“@Ysedra...I'm glad you'll stop responding. The whole point of this is to educate people about the truth & stop people making incorrect & insensitive comments like the one you did.
@Eggybred I agree we have to let those with ignorant comments be left to their own devices. However, I haven't childishly insulted anyone. As for your comment 'Have some respect?'...Are you kidding? You need to read the enitre thread and see where there is a lack of respect. As this is an open forum, I can make as many comments as I see fit, and if you do read the enitre thread you'll see my comments are succinct & justified.”

“Stupot77 instead of sticking to the facts and letting other peoples ignorance speak for themselves you have taken over the comments section with a load of childish insults.
show some respect.”

“Of course I can 'accuse' you, just as you clearly believe you can invent motivations for the people you evidentlly joined this site to try to rile. The difference is that I can stop responding to you now, and have more sensible conversations instead, while you are somewhat more limited...”

“@Ysedra...I don't think you can accuse me of 'wearing blinkers' for highlighting your comment 'some supporters were at least in part responsible for the situation that led to so many deaths'. It doesn't matter which word you later choose to empahsise. Your comment is factually and morally wrong. By your thinking, the victims of 9/11 created 'a situation that led to so many deaths'' by getting on a plane or going to work? Are they 'partly to blame' for their own deaths?”

“I thought it was an adequate attempt to clarify, but if you prefer to make your way through the world wearing blinkers, that's far enough, too.”

“@Ysedra...That's a pretty poor attempt at back-tracking. Taxi for Ysedra!
(coincidentally, that taxi is being driven by Kelvin Mackenzie...small world, eh?)”

“Stupot77, to the first part, fair enough, although if you want to SHOUT at people, consider directing it at someone else in future.
To the second part, I said, 'some supporters were at least in part responsible for the situation which led to so many deaths'. Emphasis, *situation*. I didn't say they were responsible for any deaths. That was the fault of the police and stadium managers entirely.”

“@Ysedra...2 reasons really.
1. Your comment addressed the comments @Justwondered and I had made.
2. You say in your comment that it is right that 'some supports' were in part responsible for the situation that led to so many deaths; which is now proven to be completely incorrect & kind of the whole point of the families fight...to correct the nations' mis-conceptions of the events of that day and who is to blame.”
