My life in Gloucestershire: Dame Janet Trotter
What's your favourite Gloucestershire day out?
Walking in the Naunton and Slaughters area of the Cotswolds. There is such seasonal variation in this walk.
And your favourite place to eat out in the county?
The Brasserie Blanc in Cheltenham which always has a varied menu and vegetarian options – and is within walking distance of my home.

What's the worst job you've ever had?
Probably, in retrospect, I learned something from all of them. I have canned fruit in a factory, been a chalet maid at a holiday camp and been a nursing orderly. Probably the least-liked job was selling ice cream on the beach at Dymchurch in Kent during a cold and wet summer.
Who is your hero and why?
My parents are my heroes because they taught me to develop my potential and always had a positive attitude. They were always there when I was growing up and helped to develop my moral compass.
As a public figure, I would have to say Nelson Mandela – his courage, leadership and fortitude are humbling.
What book are you reading at the moment?
I am currently on holiday and am reading some light novels including PD James' Death Comes to Pemberley which is a sequel to Pride and Prejudice.
What was the last film you watched?
The King's Speech
First single/record you ever bought?
Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley – I regret I do not still have it.

“I remember going to Uni 21 years ago. She spent half an hour telling us how great she was and how we'd all graduate with a proper university degree.
How did that timescale pan-out, Janet?”

“Janet Trotter gets no brownie points from me, some years back she put in planning application to build a student campus on the Folley football ground in Swindon Road, a totally bizzare application, an application that took a lot of my time and other peoples time to appose it.. in the end it got thrown out, ( Remember that Trotter) local councilor for our ward at the time was Liberal, when asked to support us in this application , she said 'Im sitting on the fence on this one'
This as been the Liberal stance on anything they are not quite sure of since..
Trotter you get no brownie points from me, as for the Liberals, that will never happen..
As far as i was concerned Trotter was an abject failure, so they made her a 'Dame' at the same time the government made another thief 'John Taylor' a Sir, because he lost the Conservative seat in Cheltenham.. There's good returns for failure.....”
