RUPERT Harden was supposed to be out of action for two weeks – trouble was, his right arm was closed for business.

The former Rugby School pupil sustained a trapped nerve in Gloucester's 47-3 Kingsholm hammering of London Irish in the Amlin Challenge Cup on December 15.

Gloucester's medics told him the innocuous blow would keep him out for a fortnight.

But the ex-Newcastle Falcons Academy man wound up missing two months of the Cherry and Whites' season.

Gearing up for his third game after the hiatus, at Wasps on Sunday (kick-off 1pm), the 27-year-old said his brain had been itching for action – but his arm was simply not interested.

Relieved his nerves are finally functioning properly again, Harden explained: "I had a trapped nerve in my right arm and the whole arm shut down.

"It's still not quite right but it's almost there.

"It pretty much works fine and it doesn't hurt at all, it's only in the gym when I can tell, to be honest.

"It doesn't hurt, so it's weird.

"An injury with no pain grade is very frustrating.

"I was constantly told two weeks, two weeks. It was a 'how long is a piece of string situation'.

"Your nerve just has to fire back up, and if it hasn't fired up in those two weeks, then you can't play, and that's just the nature of it.

"The physios can only do what they can do, it all depends how your body responds – and mine decided to have a bit of a snooze!"

“We will desperately need to have Rupert Harden, our best and most proficient tight head, stating against Wasps on the weekend if it is not to be underpowered like it was when Harden was out injured.”
