A new restaurant is being built at the Gloucester ski centre in Matson
A NEW two-storey restaurant to seat 120 people is being built in Matson.
The Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre, in Matson Lane, has been granted planning permission for the eatery and it is hoped it will open to the public by the end of 2014.

VISION: An artist's impression of the restaurant at Matson Ski Centre.
The centre already has a small cafe, but it is hoped the new development, which also includes outside seating on a raised decking area overlooking the slopes, will attract more people.
Clive Hamilton-Davies, operations director at OpalTec, which bought the centre last May, said: "The improvements will raise the status of the ski centre as a tourist destination.

"Working in partnership with local schools and businesses, the development will have a positive effect on Gloucester as it will improve the quality of tourist attractions in the area, thus bringing more money and worth into the area."
There will also be a meeting room large enough to accommodate 80 people, the kitchen area will increase to 400 sq ft, and a new cellar area of 400 sq ft will also be created.
"We have seen the potential in the centre and it is trading really well," added Mr Hamilton-Davies.
"We are hoping to start work next year and it should only take three to four months to complete. While work is under way, it will be business as normal for the rest of the centre."
Jean White, centre manager, said: "It is great news for the centre, we are all really excited about it.
" It is quite a large area that is being developed, and it will be great to have a big restaurant here."
More jobs will be created, but it is not known how many.

“To cut through all the **** posted by some doom mongers.
I think it is great that the new owners are investing into the area as have the hotel and golf course owners.
It will bring jobs and visitors to the area and with the new service station nearby a much needed boost to the area.
Well done to the entrepinares who are putting their money where their mouth is.
The whole complex was owned by Jarvis Hotels and provided employment and an interesting "resort" with hotel, ski, golf who sadly went out of business.
The baton has been taken up by new businesses owners and I very much hope they all succeed.”

“What's the matter with Matson? I used to work in Camberwell, Stockwell and in Peckham London, SE25 and believe you me those are crime infested dumps.
The flats in Matson have been painted up, really nice houses have been built where The Musket pub used to be (called Musket Close!) the newest multi-million pound school academy is being built and the local shops are much better than they were, and a new Tesco Express too.
Nowt wrong with Matson these days. (and no, I don't live there)”

“Zalapompadoo why dont you leave the comments to literate people?
Sadly I do know Matson, I have done two jobs there, the first job my van was broken into by local druggies, (neighbours saw them and just said, 'yeah, they are always nicking from cars....') and the second job the customer told me he was delighted with the work but wasn't going to pay me as he had no money. The place is full of benefit dossers and dross.”

“i do know matson i live not far from the ski slope and I have never had any problems however we did live in churchdown and innsworth had cars vandalised a water fountain stolen from back garden and were very unhappy i also work with cheltnham folk who admitted to being woken up by fighting in the streets cars wing mirrors kicked off tyres slashed so maybe matson is not so bad lets face it if matson is so bad why do parnets who dont live in matson catch 2 buses to get their children to robinswood school so i suggest those who mouth off about matson crawl back into their little hovels and shut up. probaly find my house is worth more than yours and it is mine.”

“@Stuartl2010 - Now that was funny ! Although your comments are a little harsh, I do agree with certain aspects. Who on earth would venture through Matson for a lovely meal out? Its an awful looking place, and can be quite intimidating for the likes of me, who coincidently does live in a village :)”
