Painswick secure vital victory

08:00 - 17-June-2008

DAVID BOON and James Harber were the heroes for Painswick as they beat Redmarley by 55 runs at Broadham Fields.

The returning Boon top scored with 71 while Harber took five wickets for 49 to ensure that Painswick kept in touch with the Gloucestershire Division's top three.

The nine wickets that Redmarley skipper Ian Gerken and team-mate Paul Newbery shared between them proved to be in vain as their run-chase fell short.

Painswick, who were put into bat by Gerken after he won the toss, managed to reach 210 despite having only three players score more than 16.

Opener Julian Telling made 30, while Harber contributed an impressive 31 at eight, but Boon's 71 was the key to their success.

He was caught and bowled by Newbery after hitting seven four's and three sixes during a match-winning knock that frustrated the visitors' attack.

Their response got off to the worst possible start when opener Luke Smith was bowled for a duck by Sean Powyer and Craig Heath followed, becoming one of Harber's victims, with just three runs to his name.

Captain Gerken was also out for a duck following Simon Base's run-out and the Redmarley batting order also featured just three players to score more than 16.

Toby Dudfield made 26 before he was caught by James Cook off Harber's bowling while Kevin Trouw scored 20 before he was trapped leg before from Powyer's delivery.

Redmarley's star man was Newbery, who was bowled by Harber just three runs short of his half-century.

The Playley Green outfit were all out for 155 off 36 overs with Base and Painswick's stand-in skipper Ian Hogg getting the wickets.
