Tributes have poured in for Tim Jennings who has died following an assault in Cirencester.

More than 400 messages of grief and love have flooded into a special Facebook site – with 1,302 members – that changed from a group wishing him well to "Tim Jennings RIP" when news of his death broke.

The 25-year-old, known as Timbo to his family and friends, was left in a critical condition after being attacked in Market Place, Cirencester, between 1.30am and 2am on Saturday.

He died in the early hours yesterday at Frenchay Hospital, after undergoing surgery on Saturday.

Tim's family, from Bibury, were too upset to speak.

Facebook group creator Pang Brinkley, who went to school with Tim and his brother Chris, thanked everyone for their support.

She said: "I don't know what words could ever describe this moment.Tim suffered from too many strokes after his operations.

"Those of you who supported him and didn't know him have probably figured what a truly genuine, dearly loved and fantastically fabulous and funny guy he was.

"Thank you for your passionate messages of support – they were a glimmer of light in a very dark place for those close to Tim."

Kim Sorsa, from London, wrote: "RIP Tim, you were a legend, you will be missed but never forgotten.

"You were one of the good ones that was never meant to leave.

"We will always remember you."

Amy Grattan wrote: "You really will have no idea how many people's hearts you have touched. Rest in peace hun."

Rebecca Louise Risby, from Farmor's School, Fairford, wrote: "Why did it have to be you Tim? You never did anything wrong, Bibury isn't gonna be the same without you."

Tim was the eldest of four children.

He went to Hatherop Primary School before attending Farmor's, from 1995 to 2000, followed by his brother Chris, and sisters Elizabeth and Catherine.

His parents had lived in Eastleach, where they ran the Victorian pub, before moving to Bibury.

Tim left school to pursue a career in catering.

Farmor's headteacher Anne Stokes said: "The only thing he ever talked about was becoming a chef and having his own business."

After school he worked at The Swan Inn, Bibury, and other restaurants including as a stand-in chef at The Fossebridge, near Northleach.

Owner Robert Jenkins said: "The world is a worse place without him."

Tim became a sales rep for West Country Foods and had moved to become a rep with a food wholesaler.

The coroner has been informed and a post mortem is due to be carried out.

Two 18-year-old men from Cirencester were arrested and held in custody until Monday.

Both have been released on conditional police bail until July 20.

Police still want to hear from club-goers who were in Bar Code in Cirencester on the evening of Friday, June 26 until early on Saturday, June 27, and anyone who witnessed any disorder in Market Place between 1.30am and 2am on Saturday.

Call Gloucestershire police on 0845 090 1234.
