A night to shine for
THE toast was innovation and enterprise as the county's leading entrepreneurs celebrated success at The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo's Diamond Jubilee Business Awards.
The glittering 15th annual awards – now the biggest of their type in the country – attracted more than 630 business leaders to The Centaur at Cheltenham Racecourse on Thursday night.
There were 12 awards up for grabs and the Business of the Year award, supported by title sponsor Randall&Payne, was won by Avon Metals of Bristol Road, Gloucester.
The company now has a global operation for metals recycling, manufacturing and trading and has evolved into one of the most dynamic and profitable metal companies in the country.

It started life as a humble scrap metal merchant but now produces a range of aluminium ingots and trades a variety of other metals. Avon Metals now has approaching 20 per cent of the global market in aluminium master alloys.
Steve Munnoch, Avon Metals chief executive, said: "We have been a finalist five times in the last six years so to win this year was just the ultimate for us."
Staverton-based aerospace company Messier Bugatti Dowty MRO scooped two award for Apprenticeship Development and Best Place to Work.
The company's managing director Paul Clifford said: "We are 240 strong and they have put everything into making the business a success, particularly over the past three or four years."
TV sports broadcaster Jill Douglas, pictured, was the MC for the night.
She said: "I feel I am privileged to be here to help you celebrate the success of our businesses in this very special diamond jubilee year."
