£175k revamp of church starting
WORK is about to start on a £175,000 refit of historic Stroud Congregational Church.
Builders are due to move in next week for a refit of the ground floor of the Bedford Street church.
The 175-year-old church hall has been well used by community groups, including Stroud charity Marah.
Its small congregation of 25 has succeeded in raising money for the much-needed work by selling a neighbouring building and fundraising.

"The church hall was in use every day," said church secretary Marilyn Lusty.
"The hall provides a large space, plus there will be a separate meeting room, new toilets and a new kitchen."
It is hoped the hall will reopen in February and the church is keen to hear from groups hoping to use the new facilities.
