Get ready for the new Cheltenham H&M opening tomorrow
TOMORROW, H&M throws opens its doors in Cheltenham town centre. Ahead of the big opening, we asked the clothing store's country manager of UK and Ireland, Carlos Duarte, some key questions.
Why did the company want to move to Cheltenham?
H&M is one of the world's largest fashion companies present in 50 markets worldwide so we are committed to growing the business in a controlled way, with quality, sustainability and continued high profitability.
We have been looking at Cheltenham for some time waiting for the right opportunity to arise and are delighted to be adding the town to our portfolio of store locations bringing our current total in the UK and Ireland to 232 stores.

We hope that the local residents in the town and surrounding Cotswold area will welcome our arrival and find H&M an inspiring fashion destination with new arrivals in store daily and something for everyone, no matter their age, budget or personal style.
How long has it wanted to be in the town?
Cheltenham is one of the biggest towns in the UK where we do not have a store so it has been on our target lists a number of years.
Why is the new unit in the Regent Arcade your location of choice?
There are a number of factors that determine where we open new stores. One of the most important is the location. Our stores must always be in the best business location in any town or shopping centre. The best business location is so important that we would rather hold off from opening a new store and wait until the right location becomes available.
We see the Regent Arcade, which is centrally located in the heart of the town with easy access to both the mall and the high street, as providing the perfect location for us and we can't wait to open.
How many jobs will the new store provide?
Approximately 50 in a split of full and part time positions.
What will the new store offer to the shoppers of the town?
The new store will offer fabulous fashion for all the family over three floors and 20,000 sq ft of sales space. We hope to bring our business philosophy of fashion and quality at the best price which is at the heart of everything we do as a business.
We are continuously assessing and challenging our strategy in order to come up with exciting collections that surprise our customer and offer them a unique shopping experience.
What departments will it include?
The new store will sell fashion for women, men, teenagers and children. As well as our H&M Sport collection and maternity range H&M Mama.
Do you think it will affect your store in nearby Gloucester?
As a growth company we are keen to explore all possibilities for expansion and believe we will attract a different customer base to those who shop at Gloucester, especially local residents who are looking for convenience. The availability of attractive business locations such as the Regent Arcade in Cheltenham is the major deciding factor in our rate of expansion in the UK and Ireland.
We think that by having both stores in relative proximity to one another will mean more choice and wider availabilities for our customers. We are now looking forward to opening the doors to our exciting new store tomorrow.
