POOR Jack and Millie have been stuck at the Teckels Animal Sanctuary in Whitminster for 18 months now. They come as a pair, can't live with children or other pets and are both around seven or eight years old, meaning that it has proved difficult for them to find a new home.

Pip, a semi long-haired cat, is around one or two years old and came into Teckels as a stray from Gloucester. The nature of her arrival means that staff don't know her history or what she is like with other animals or children. They said her coat will need keeping on top of regular grooming.

Anyone able to help should call Teckels on 01452 740300.

“Bonnie, I understand where you are coming from, but if you cannot afford £65 to adopt a dog or cat, then you have to ask if you can afford to feed it or pay for its vets bills. It costs about that for their annual vaccinations and boosters, plus a bit more for flea prevention. I would have no problem, with paying £65 to adopt a cat, as at least I would know that would go towards the running and caring of the inmates left behind. Many people will spend without a second thought £65 or more for a family meal out, or new clothes, shoes or some gadget or other, so why not a living creature.”

“I know animal shelters need to make money & cover their costs, but when a cat (from some places), can cost £65 to adopt, this is going to put people off who can't afford this sort of money but could offer a cat (or other animal) a caring & loving home. It's just the animals that are losing out.”
