Bands took to the stage from Friday until the end of Sunday and festival director Freddie Whittaker said: "Usually we estimate footfall of around 4,500 unique visitors.

"We have a capacity of 1,000 in Bank Gardens and it was nearly full on both Friday and Saturday nights. Cornhill was very busy Saturday night too."

Freddie said record numbers turned out for headliners Ska Daddy and The Bleedin' Noses.

"It has been fantastic," Freddie said.

"We were very lucky with the weather, especially on Saturday and really pleased with Fringe events across the town in our pubs and clubs too."

The free Fringe was grateful to its main supporter, Stroud Town Council, which gave the Fringe its major grant, and to all its sponsors.

The council also gave the festival free use of the park. "So really the council made it happen," Freddie said.
