The festival, organised by Gloucester City Council, attracted thousands of people when it was last held in 2011 – but several vessels were grounded on the mud.
Back in 2010, the festival was axed by Marketing Gloucester, the people behind the event, for the year because of building works in the Docks.
But this year promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
As well as the attraction of the tall ships themselves, there is also much to see and do around the festival site.
There are living history characters, marauding pirates, live music, arts, crafts and food stalls and kids' activities.
Plus there are the adjacent Gloucester Waterways and Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museums and outlet shopping at Gloucester Quays, all based around Gloucester's historic docks.
