A PUBLIC consultation will be held this week over plans for Brockworth's greenbelt.

Hucclecote Parish Council wants to get its residents' views on the proposals for 1,500 homes to be built in the neighbouring village.

The event will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday (Feb 17)  at the village hall.

Plans for the new development, known as Perrybrook, have now been validated by Tewkesbury Borough Council's planning department and can be viewed on its website.

“I eventually found the page on the Tewkesbury Borough Council website. They don't make it easy - or are council people just not used to this new-fangled internet malarkey? Searching for 'Perrybrook' opens a Word document. Open that document and search again for 'Perrybrook'. This present s a link - click on that and you're taken back to the Tewkesbury BC website. I can't post a link here (not allowed, apparently due to some archaic ThisIsGlos law).

There are a lot of drawings as the council do not make it easy to find the right info. Click on Drawing number 321031.

This shows the development between Brockworth and the A417-Gloucester Business Park link road and filling in the triangle between his road, the A417 and the old Barnwood by-pass.

Both Barnwood by-pass and the link road are to have a roundabout.

This development is a blatant expansion of the built-up area of the city of Gloucester. I have never understood why the boundaries of both Gloucester and Cheltenham only extend to the city/town limits wheareas those of other districts extend well beyond them.

It's time both Cheltenham and Gloucester had their boundaries extended to provide some kind of buffer against this dumping of houses.

I have bever trusted Tewkesbury Borough Council and I trust them even less.

I suggest everyone who reads this and opposes the development should make their feelings known and object to the development on the Tewkesbury BC website. I have.”

“It's funny, the locals living next to the Mill Lane development complained about new housing and now the new resients of the Mill Lane development are complaining about the same.”

“Tewkesbury Borough Council will jump at any opportunity to dump more houses on the edge of Gloucester, putting further strain on the city's infrastructure whilst reaping all the council tax benefit.

And as someone said, a green belt is not for building on. Soon Gloucester and Cheltenham will be one great big sprawl. Well done Tewkesbury BC, you muppets.”

“I always thought greenbelt was supposed to be protected land, and not for building on. If thats the case, then it shouldn't even be up for discussion. There are probably plenty of brownfield sites available to build on, they should build on those. There are also plenty of houses, empty and have been for a long time rotting away with neglect, councils should identify them, compulsory buy them and refurbish them for people to live in them. Our beautiful countryside attracts tourism from other parts our country and abroad, and provides the rest of us with somewhere to visit which isn't covered in ugly concrete.
Building on greenbelt is all about developers being able to get more money for these houses. If they are supposed to be building affordable houses, they would surely be more affordable on brownfield sites. Once you give developers the green light [excuse the pun] to build on greenbelt, there will be no stopping them, and that would be a criminal waste of our coutryside.”

“Before anyone cries 'job opportunities for local young people' think on... at another current development of 80 houses that no-one wanted on the edge of Abbotswood in Brockworth where the developer cut down many mature Perry trees they weren't supposed to - most of the 'trades' (tradesmen) working on the houses are commuting from the Midlands!”

“Yes OK, stop building houses most people cannot afford along Mill Lane and the once lovely Shurdington Road.

There are many houses for sale on the new Mill Lane development that have recently been put up for sale which won't now sell - who's going to want to live opposite a 1,500 house building site for several years?

And aren't there enough un-sold houses on Coopers Edge that the developers are having to give big cash discounts on and take part-exchanges on that won't sell quickly either?”
