Back to school? Gloucester's pick of the uniform shops
THE return to school is fast approaching for children across Gloucester and parents are doing the annual uniform shopping spree.
Reporter Khiam Barry took to the streets of Gloucester to see what uniform the city's shops had on offer. Quality, style and price vary across shops in the city and supermarkets generally come up cheaper than traditional shops.
For teenage boys buying trousers, at Debenhams, parents can get their hands on a pack of pleat-front school trousers in grey or black for £15. Stain and water repellent, machine washable, easy iron and with an adjustable waistband these are made of quite thick and durable material so they will last a long time.
If it's choice of style you are after, BHS is the place to go offering slim fit, skinny fit or generous fit from £12. But if you're looking for a bargain, head to Asda for a £6.50 pair of flat front trousers.
You can get your hands on a pair of black loafer shoes at Debenhams for £24 in an adult size 6. Sturdy, strong and stylish but with slippy soles, these are not a bad buy. A pair of scuff resistant flip back shoes in a size 8 are a good option at £25 from BHS. M&S offer a leather lined slip-on school shoe in sizes 6 for £28. These are very fashionable and have good grip on the bottom of the shoe.
For primary school girls, ther is also plenty of choice. A pack of two white short sleeved blouses in Debenhams that are easy iron and you can throw in the tumble drier cost £7.
In BHS, a pack of two white blouses cost from £5, are easy iron and have reinforced collars. M&S have handy Expandicuff sleeves which allow up to 8 years to pull up their sleeves without undoing the buttons and cost from £9. For a cheap and cheerful option, two short-sleeved shirts cost £2.
For school shoes Debenhams have a lovely bow shoe in a size 12 at £13. As the name suggests, with a nice bow on the toe of the shoes and with a strap that goes across the bridge of the foot to avoid the shoe slipping off, these are simple but smart. BHS's school shoes are slightly more expensive at £17 for a size 13 pair of black bar shoes that look very smart and have a nice flower pattern on the toe and a velcro strap going across the bridge of the foot. M&S have size 13 scuff-resistant leather shoes at £14 with a bow detail on the front.
Sharon Rose, from Quedgeley, was shopping in Debenhams with daughter Kaziya said: "I like shopping in Debenhams and BHS because they are good quality and last a long time."
