POLICE officers were left puzzled on Friday night after spending more than an hour searching for a man after reports in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire Constabulary received reports from members of the public about a man in dark clothing who was stumbling about on Hyde Lane, towards Swindon Village in Cheltenham on the last day of Cheltenham Festival.

It was reported around 8.20pm that night that the man had fallen into a hedge, and could not be found.

Officers were sent with dogs to search for him, and a helicopter from the Western Counties Air Operations Unit was also engaged to help with the incident.
