"She was a slag anyway" - deplorable defence of man, 28, who sent girl, 13, explicit texts
A ‘DEPLORABLE attitude to the opposite sex’ has led to a jail sentence for a 28-year-old man who sent explicit texts and picture messages to a 13-year-old girl.
Jamie Loftus, of Worcester Street, Gloucester will serve half of a 12-month term handed down at the city’s crown court today for the offences committed in January.
He admitting trying to entice the schoolgirl to have sex with him in a previous hearing last month but sentencing was deferred because he disagreed with ‘disparaging’ remarks made about him in a pre-sentence report - the author of which was away on holiday at the time.
However, Judge Jamie Tabor QC was able to question her today.
The probation officer said: “I interviewed him for about an hour, an hour-and-a-half. He said he didn’t know what the impact on the victim was but she was a slag anyway and sleeps around.”
Loftus, who had never met the girl and got her number from his partner’s daughter’s mobile phone, claimed he was simply relaying what he had heard about the girl and wasn’t speaking about her directly.
He also revealed in his interview with the officer that he led an ‘active’ sex life with several partners.
He shook his head vigorously throughout the probation officer’s testimony but the judge said that whatever the circumstances under which he was derogatory about his victim, he had ‘no respect’ for women.
“Apparently adults weren’t good enough for you,” said the judge.
“You then made a remark to the probation officer which was very revealing. You said to her ‘well, she was a slag, that’s what I’ve been told’. You have no respect for the opposite sex, age is no hindrance to you.”
He said Loftus narrowly avoided a longer jail term for grooming as he had never met, nor travelled to meet, the girl.
He ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
