Cleeve hit for six

DIDCOT TOWN 6

BISHOP'S CLEEVE

BISHOP'S CLEEVE manager Paul Collicutt was left in a state of shock after his side suffered the biggest defeat of his tenure.

The Kayte Lane club, who had only conceded four goals in their previous six league games, shipped six without reply in the second half of this encounter with their former Hellenic League rivals.

Didcot skipper Jamie Heapy fired his side ahead on 51 minutes and Neville Roach settled the outcome with a quickfire brace in the space of seven minutes.

Jack King's penalty and two from substitute Elliott Osborne-Ricketts completed the rout to stun boss Collicutt.

"I think it's the biggest defeat I've had in my time at Cleeve and that's nine years now," he said.

"We were 0-0 at half-time and we were the better side, that's no joke.

"We had eight or nine half-chances. They only had two and Jamie Moore has made a couple of great saves to keep them out.

"Didcot scored at the start of the second half but there was no need to panic and Slacky's had a couple of chances to draw us level with one hitting the bar.

"But then their second went in and that was it. I can't remember a 45 minutes like it.

"If we had been leaking goals this season it would be easier to understand but that's not been the case.

"The lads just gave up and they let me down, they let themselves down and they've let the club down.

"I can only hope it's just a freak result because I never want to witness anything like that again."

CIRENCESTER TOWN 2

TAUNTON TOWN

Cirencester Town picked up their first home win of the new season.

A goal in each half and first clean sheet of the campaign, left Taunton still looking for their first away point.

Peacocks' keeper Simon Cooper was beaten on 44 minutes when he fumbled Steve Robertson's shot from a superb Matt Williams pass. Adam Heath, having allowed Jamie Price to get away with a simple chest back to his keeper minutes earlier, was this time much more alert and pounced to fire Ciren ahead.

Andrew Minturn cleverly nodded home off a Steve Davis free kick on 52 minutes and the floodgates should have opened.

Matt Williams, Adam Heath and Andy Minturn all had close calls, with their efforts sailing past the post. But, in spite of their dominance, Ciren could not break through a stubborn Peacocks defence.

For a woefully powder puff Taunton attack, Matt Rawlins' shot past the post on 66 minutes and a miscued header wide on 78 minutes from Lee Bridson were the only threats on Tom King in the Ciren goal on a day when the Ciren defence delivered the first priority of recently appointed manager Mr Hughes.

Hopefully last year will stand us in good stead to go further this season - maybe even win it!
