Dingle goal defeats Ciren

08:00 - 23-July-2008

HIGHWORTH TOWN 1

CIRENCESTER TOWN 0

CIRENCESTER are still waiting for their first pre-season victory after defeat at the Elm Recreation Ground last night.

Hellenic Premier Highworth won the contest with a solitary Tom Dingle goal in the 26th minute, just after Ciren's Julian Alsop had hit the bar with a header.

Adi Viveash's men would hit the woodwork for a second time after the break with Nathan Haisley going close to finding an equaliser.

Highworth were deserved winners on the sloping pitch they know so well but there was some good news for Ciren. Steve Robertson, who missed the 1-1 draw with Hungerford on Saturday, returned from injury as a 62nd minute replacement for Alsop.

Ciren's search for friendly success continues on Saturday when they entertain Coca Cola championship side Bristol City, who just missed out on a Premier League place following their 1-0 defeat by Hull City in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

The Centurions follow the Robins clash with a trip to Wotton Bassett Town on Wednesday July 30 (7:30pm).

Hopefully last year will stand us in good stead to go further this season - maybe even win it!
