Local boy Lee Smith is the latest player to confirm his place in the Gloucester City squad for next season.

The winger, who grew up in Coney Hill, said the loyalty of the Tigers fans was one of the deciding factors which has kept him at the club.

Smith, 25, had been a target for clubs in the Blue Square Conference South but has agreed a new deal to keep him at City.

He said: "I think Adie Harris and Dave Mehew can help me progress as a player.

"Adie in particular has been instrumental in my Gloucester career and I think he can make me even better."

With long trips ahead in the Blue Square Conference North Smith said the Tigers' strong team ethic will come into play.

He said: "Most of us are staying and it is a good club to be at right now.

"The team spirit is great so we will be able to have a laugh on the long journeys.

"The travel will be tough but if we want to make it we have to deal with it. I am ready for the challenge with Gloucester, lets see how we get on."

With 15 goals under his belt last season Smith said he was hoping to beat that in the new league.

"I am aiming for more," he said. "Or at least lots of assists."
