Barnet win can be the start of Robins' resurgence – Gallinagh

ANDY Gallinagh is confident Tuesday night's sensational 5-1 home victory over Barnet can be the start of Cheltenham Town's resurgence, writes Jon Palmer.

The Robins put an 11-match winless streak to an end in, storming back from a goal down to record their joint highest home Football League win.

Gallinagh nodded in the all-important equaliser from David Bird's free-kick to claim his second goal for the club.

The 24-year-old has played in central midfield for most of this season was outstanding at centre half on Tuesday night as acting manager John Schofield registered his first three-point haul in the top job.

"It's the start of something and hopefully we can build on it now," Gallinagh said.

"It was much needed goal and I was very happy with it. It definitely came off my head, but it might have come off my little finger on the way in, but they all count and I am very pleased.

"It's a massive result and it means everything."

With the exception of a 4-0 home humbling by Crewe Alexandra, Cheltenham have shown signs of progression under Schofield, who will have enhanced his chances of succeeding Martin Allen immeasurably after the Barnet result.

"The lads have put in some great effort and come away with nothing so it was particularly good to get three points under our belt," Gallinagh said.

"It was a massive relief to get three points, we have been creating chances and not been putting them away, hopefully we can continue to convert them as we did against Barnet."

Cheltenham's early exit from the FA Cup mean they have a free Saturday this weekend, but they are back in action when they travel to Torquay United next Tuesday.

■ The Robins Trust's AGM will be held this evening in the Victory Bar at the Abbey Business Stadium, starting at 7pm and a fans' forum with club chairman Paul Baker will follow afterwards.
