Rovers return for Fleetwood as Leeds await

STUART FLEETWOOD is set for an emotional return to Forest Green in the colours of either Charlton Athletic or Exeter City, writes Peter Orchard.

Rovers have arranged home pre-season friendlies against Fleetwood's parent club Charlton on July 18 and the Grecians – for whom the Gloucester poacher played on loan last term – on August 1.

New Lawn chairman Trevor Horsley will also realise a long-term ambition by hosting his hometown club and fallen giants Leeds United, although a date has yet to be fixed.

Championship big-spenders Queens Park Rangers are other potential opponents ahead of the Blue Square Premier kick-off on August 8, but it is the return of Fleetwood which will most capture the imagination of supporters.

Signed on a free transfer from Hereford United in June 2007, he scored an astonishing 36 goals in 50 games the following season.

He moved to The Valley last summer but failed to make the first team, resulting in loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Exeter.

It was at St James' Park that he made the most impact, scoring three times in nine games as Paul Tisdale's side made a late surge to promotion from League Two.

Tisdale would like to sign Fleetwood permanently, but any move has been hindered by a proposed takeover at the relegated London club.

Forest Green are looking for youth team players for next season.

With teams ranging from Under-Eights to Under-18s, players of all ages are invited to get in touch with the club.

An Under-Sevens team (school age only) is also being formed for 2009-10, with applications taken on a first come, first served basis.
