Top teams get set to battle it out

TOP four clashes dominate this weekend's Cheltenham Association Football League programme as the leading sides in three of the League's six divisions meet up tomorrow.

Leading the way will be Apperley & Tewkesbury Dynamos, the new leaders of Division Two, who will be playing at home to Whaddon United Reserves.

Apperley & Tewkesbury Dynamos took over at the top following an excellent 3-0 win away to Gala Wilton Reserves last Saturday and will be hoping to consolidate their position when they welcome fourth placed Whaddon United Reserves to Apperley Playing Fields.

Whaddon United Reserves have not played a League game since November 29 and will be keen to put the disappointment of last weekend, when they lost 4-0 to Leonard Stanley in the GFA Junior County Cup Quarter Final, behind them when they finally make a return to League action.

Another side that lost 4-0 in a County Cup Quarter Final last weekend is Gloucester Elmleaze, who are in third place in Division Three.

They can exchange places, however, with their hosts tomorrow, Broadway United, if they take maximum points from their visit to the second placed side's Milestone Ground tomorrow.

Gloucester Elmleaze also have not featured in League action for nearly two months, but their hosts this weekend warmed up for this top-of-the-table clash with a crushing 9-1 victory away to Cheltenham Civil Service III last Saturday.

Meanwhile, first place plays fourth in Division Four as Tivoli Rovers welcome table toppers Churchdown Panthers to Kingsmead School and top plays third in Division Five, where runaway leaders, C&G, who go into this weekend's games eight points clear, take on third placed Falcons Reserves.

Also in Division Five, Tewkesbury Town Reserves, who are the closest challengers to C&G in second place, travel to Bishop's Cleeve to take on fourth placed Star FC III, knowing that the home team will go into second spot if they win and Falcons Reserves lose.
