A project funded by £40,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, has been launched to uncover history hidden under Kingsholm, Gloucester. Some residents have to barely scrape the surface of their garden to uncover Roman relics. The archaeology team at the county council would eventually like to excavate 20 test pits and carry out a geophysical survey in the area. Councillor Jeremy Hilton said: "We know it was the site of the first Roman military fort. Part of the study is to carry out a number of digs to find the Anglo-Saxon palace."
