Changes at school after Ofsted report

Conservative parliamentary candidate Neil Carmichael is the new chairman of governors at Marling School, following an Ofsted report which said its governance was “inadequate”.
Jenni Varley is no longer chairman of the selective boys grammar in Cainscross Road, Stroud, but she remains on the school's governing body.
“I'm still a governor, Derek Jarvis (former vice-chairman) is still a governor too,” she said.
She would not comment on whether she had been forced out and when asked if she had resigned, she said: “We did at the end.
“We are both very staunch supporters of Marling.”
The Ofsted report, which followed an inspection in November last year, singled out governance as “inadequate”.
Inspection judgements are graded from one (outstanding) to four (inadequate).
Only “the extent to which governors and other supervisory boards discharge their responsibilities” was graded at four, with the other six leadership and management criteria rated at three (satisfactory).
The overall effectiveness of the school was graded at three as well.
Mr Carmichael told Stroud Life that like all governing bodies, the governors have had a re-shuffle.
“You cannot be chairman indefinitely,” he said. “I don't plan on being chairman indefinitely either.”
As a result of his new appointment, he has resigned as vice-chairman of governors at Stroud College.
“I have been fairly involved in Stroud College, so I know how they run and what they need to focus on. Obviously we need to look at the report.
“Governance is being changed by the Government too – governors are having to confront different issues compared to a few years ago, there is a more complex range of subjects to cover.”
