CARERS who support people with dementia could be given more support.

Cotswold District Council's Caring for Dementia' conference discussed earlier assessment of the condition and the range of new medicines which can increase quality of life for people with dementia.

They heard about the activities offered across the county to help cope with dementia, as well as facilities available at care homes, and help provided by community nurses, therapists and social workers.

Support offered to carers from Dementia Advice, the Alzheimer's Society and Respite was also covered.

Conference organiser, Bill Wragge, said: "Dementia is a fact of life.

"It will probably touch all of us, either through our families and friends, and the more we can do now to support those with dementia and their carers, the better we will all be able to deal with it in the future," he said.

“Any chance of some of this support being provided in Gloucester?”
