Air cadets march through Tewkesbury

Sunday, February 07, 2010, 17:00

TEWKESBURY came to a reverential standstill as hundreds of air cadets paraded through the streets to celebrate the 150th year of the cadet movement.

Cadets from the Bristol and Gloucestershire wing of the Air Training Corps were joined by dignitaries for a service of thanksgiving in Tewkesbury Abbey, including Town Mayor Philip Workman and new police chief Tony Melville.

Mr Melville, who took on the role of Chief Constable on January 1, welcomed Gloucestershire's Lord Lieutenant Sir Henry Elwes to the Abbey.

Following the service the cadets marched to the town hall, with drums and brass resounding, where Sir Henry gave the salute.

See tomorrow's Echo for full report and pictures.
