Teenage web wizard helps get shop on to TV
He is the creative inspiration behind the website of The Music Trade in Church Street.
The Tewkesbury School pupil developed the site for owner Jon Benns.
It was spotted by the producers of BBC2's flagship business show, The Money Programme.
And as they went to film the town's fortunes in April the music shop was their first port of call.
Retail guru Mary Portas was seen talking to Jon when her programme about how shops are doing in the recession was broadcast on Tuesday.
He said: "When I asked one of the producers why they had picked us in particular, they said it was because they liked our website.
"Not only did they like its design, they also found it was full of useful information, not just about the shop but about things going on in and around Tewkesbury, and it was really up to date.
"That means The Music Trade was on national television, thanks to Jason."
Jason was being taught to play the piano by Jon's wife, Caroline, when the idea for the website was first discussed.
Jon said: "We knew Jason's dad, Phil, and knew that he was an IT expert so I asked him if he could develop a website for me.
"He wasn't in a position to do that, but he thought it would be just up Jason's street.
"Not only did Jason design and develop the site for me, he also updates it on a regular basis."
Jason, who lives in Tredington, has been interested in working with computers for six years. He follows in the footsteps of father Phil, who has a degree in IT and multimedia.
The teenager said: "When Jon gave me the chance to rebuild his website I was a little scared but I thought I could do a reasonable job.
"He sends me regular updates and I format them to fit well with the style of the site and make the links to the pages.
"I'm so pleased it helped him with the TV show."
