Four ways to.....in 2013
Four ways to .......in 2013
What do you want to make happen this year? Read the papers and you'll see advice on feeling happier, fitter, healthier, thinner, calmer, less addictive, more socially connected....so , where do you start with this new year resolution-business?
Look round you at friends and family....what are their plans? Do you think auntie flo will be able to lose those tummy tyres? Will John be able to kick the ciggies? Can you see Jenny getting out and meeting some new friends? What will help Pete be more organised at work?
Can you understand what makes these plans so difficult each year for them? This means being 'empathic' and putting yourself in their shoes and feeling what they feel as best you can.

Maybe rather than too many typical resolutions for yourself this year, try making a 'I'll be more empathic and compassionate this year '? Here are some specific suggestions to move you up the 'empathy ' stakes.
1) look around at your friends and family and think what could you do to help them with their situations and resolutions. Making a list of five active steps is a good idea.
2) spend a few minutes every day relaxing quietly and wondering what being compassionate and empathic means to you.
3) write and send one email and one text to friends which gets across that you are thinking about them in some way. Ring someone just to see how they are.
4) tell yourself from time to time that you ARE a compassionate person and want to be more so if you can in 2013.
I wonder what would happen to YOUR own typical New Years resolutions about weight, diet, exercise, booze etc if YOU feel a more compassionate person....I bet you keep more of them and achieve more!! Good luck.Let me know how it goes...seriously, I'd be interested to know.
