FATHER-OF-THREE Abdul Faina, who plied hard drugs on the streets of Cheltenham, has been jailed for six years.

Faina worked as a one-man operation selling his illegal wares in clubs and at parties.

The 23-year-old was caught with heroin and cocaine and then, while on bail, he continued selling drugs and was arrested again in Cheltenham after tracker dogs sniffed out drugs equipment. At Gloucester Crown Court Congo-born Faina, 23, who has three young sons, pleaded guilty to having heroin and cocaine with intent to supply on February 26, in Gloucester, last year and having heroin with intent again on July 27, in the town.

Jailing him for a total of six years, Judge William Hart said: "Those who deal in Class A drugs must be well aware that they are a scourge and a blight on society both locally and nationally."

Prosecutor Nick O'Brien said on February 26, there was a disturbance at 4am in Alvin Street in Gloucester, and Faina was arrested and searched.

He had 23 wraps of cocaine and 55 wraps of heroin on him as well as 5.34 grams of cannabis. The cocaine was worth £220, the heroin £520 and Faina was also carrying £355 cash.

Mr O'Brien said after questioning Faina was released on bail but on July 27 was arrested in Grosvenor Street, in Cheltenham, shortly after he was seen getting into a taxi.

He saw officers watching him and dropped a set of scales under a parked car but were later found by a tracker dog.

The court heard he was searched but nothing was found on him.

He was arrested and it was later found he had a cellophane wrap concealed containing 7.93 grams of heroin. Mr O'Brien said: "Texts on his phone confirmed he was dealing and he had £655 in cash on him."

Simon Burns, defending, said Faina was a 'sole operator'. He had been supplying friends and associates at parties and night clubs.

He said Faina, of Fieldcourt Gardens, in Quedgeley, is a British citizen with a 'charming' partner who deems him to be a very good father.

Judge Hart imposed three and a half years in prison for the Gloucester offences and two and a half years for the Cheltenham offence.

“What has his 'charming' partner got to do with the price of bread? Is she 'fragrant' as well?”

“I daresay that in the Congo, convicted drug dealers get worse sentences and worse prisons than here so he clearly has no conscience about the privilege he has abused by being here or about the suffering he is causing other people in Britain.

He is letting down other people from his country that might well want to be here and have something positive to contribute.

We are far too soft on people like this.”

“I think that I can clarify the situation Charles - basically, what has happened is that yourself, Desenchanter and Jayzzzz9999 have successfully argued NP1993 into a corner.

Consequently, he is alternately trying to weasel out of his earlier arguments and mobilising his little army of FaceBook friends to big up his alternating proclamations.”

“yeah tommadiet. should have given him 12 years, then he may have actually served 6 years. His defence didn't have much to say that was helpful in his defence either. He "was a 'sole operator'. He had been supplying friends and associates at parties and night clubs" No sob story there then !!”

“I think the sentence should have been far longer, drugs are the root of many of societies problems.”

“Perfectly correct, again well spotted. Helps that I personally know the chap so totally agree in with what you are saying in this instance about sending him back, I'm guessing you do not know him and therefore have a general view rather than a view on a specific case like myself :)”

“British citizen therefore however you look at it, he is British. this is what separates our democracy from war stricken countries like the Congo... but then again how has this criminal acted morally correct you may ask? And correctly so but fortunately our country does not operate with an 'eye for eye' otherwise capital punishment would still be in force. Morals and ethics are what separate law abiding citizen from animals and criminals alike.”
